Understanding our bodies

In partnership with Shishu Sarothi, we conducted a workshop at Guwahati School for the Blind, with a group of students from standards 8-10 on August 20, 2017.

We broke the group up into girls and boys. The boys’ session was led by a trainer from Shishu Sarothi. They also had a brief session with a female facilitator, who explained menstruation and parts of the female body to the boys.

In the women’s room, the girls knew about menstruation, but their knowledge around body parts was basic, and they approached the male anatomy models with particular reserve. We used tactile models and hands-on condom demonstrations to talk about contraceptives and to better explore their bodies.
